2020 Paul Lawrence Dunbar Girls’ Golf Classic

FormatThe tournament will consist of two stipulated rounds of stroke play: Holes 1-9 & Holes 10-18, with teams playing 5 players and counting the low 4 scores.  Play will begin with tee times.  Play will only be official if every player completes 9 holes (holes 1-9). This information supplements the Local Rules and Conditions of Competition for the 2020 KHSAA Hard Card. Posted course local rules do not apply unless noted.

 

Rules of Play: 

  1. USGA rules will govern all play except as modified as below.
  2. Each player must hole out on each green, unless they choose “Circle-8” scoring.   Any player electing to take the “Circle-8” option will not count towards the team total or the individual standings. 
  3. The rule limiting each player to 14 clubs will be observed (Rule 4-4)
  4. The One-Ball Rule will NOT be in effect.
  5. Play will be from the tees marked by the Kearney Hill Golf Links tee markers.
  6. Pace of Play is set at 4 hours and 30 minutes (18-holes). Please maintain Pace of Play and position with the group immediately ahead of you.
  7. The ball will be played using preferred lies one club length no closer to the hole in the general area. Preferred lie is not available in any penalty area or on the putting surface. The player may not change cuts of grass with a preferred lie. All bunkers will be played as lift, smooth, and place one club length no closer to the hole – the player may not place the ball outside of the bunker except as under Rule 16.1.c.
  8. The following may be played as Ground Under Repair:
  1. Areas marked by white lines.
  2. Tire ruts made by Maintenance Vehicles
  1. Railroad ties (in and out of hazards), stonework, the stone wall in the bunker on Hole #4, visible liners in bunkers, and decorative rocks and stone walls lying within water hazards will be played as Integral Parts of the Course.
  2. Local Rule – Hole #1.  Any ball lying within the fence around the tree right of the fairway (the graveyard) on Hole #1 may be dropped within one club length from the fence no closer to the hole without penalty. 
  3. Out-of-Bounds are marked by white stakes and/or painted lines as well as boundary fences on the perimeter of the golf course.  The following holes have OB’s marked by boundary fences or white stakes (1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12). 
  4. Penalty Areas are marked as follows
  1. Defined by Red or Yellow painted lines and identified by Red or Yellow stakes on the following holes:  (3, 6, 7, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17). 
  2. Penalty Areas will also be defined as the tall grass on holes (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, and 18).
  3. DROP ZONES – Holes #12 and #15 near the green and will be marked white and labeled with a DZ.

CONDITIONS

 

Time of Starting - If the player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time, the penalty for failure to start on time is loss of wo strokes at the first hole in stroke play. Otherwise, the penalty for breach of this Rule is disqualification.

 

Distance Measuring Devices – A player may obtain distance information by using a device measuring distance only.  If, during a stipulated round, a player uses any other function such as to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3.  Penalty for Breach of Condition: First Offense - Two Stroke Penalty.   For subsequent offense – Disqualification.

 

Discontinuance of Play - All practice areas are closed during suspension for a dangerous situation until the Committee has declared them open.  Signals for discontinuance and resumption of play:

Suspension for dangerous situation:  1 Prolonged airhorn note

Other Suspensions:  3 Consecutive airhorn notes repeated

Resumption of Play:  2 Short airhorn notes repeated

 

Ball Accidentally Moved By The Player On The Putting Green - When a player’s ball lies on the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment. The moved ball or ball-marker must be replaced as provided in Rules 18-2, 18-3 and 20-1. This Local Rule applies only when the player’s ball or ball-marker lies on the putting green and any movement is accidental.

 

Awards and Ties:  Team Champions, Team Runner-Up, and Team 3rd Place receive trophies.  Members of the winning team will receive medals.  Top 5 Individuals receive medals.  Ties for trophies and medals for Team Champion, Team Runner-Up, and Team 3rd Place will be determined by comparing the scores of the teams’ 5th player (the discarded score.) Ties for Individual Medalist will be broken by the “USGA Method” by comparing the cumulative score on the last 9 holes, should there still be a tie then it will be the same method using the last 6 holes, then last 3 holes, then 18th hole.
